Meet the Spence Chiropractic Team

Ashlee Shook- Chiropractic Assistant

My chiropractic journey began when I was 6 or 7 when I got whiplash from a car accident. My mother took me to see her Chiropractor. Throughout high school I would ask my mother to make appointments for me whenever my back pain became too uncomfortable to ignore. After college I was determined to find another chiropractor to help me with my chronic neck and back pain. I was only 24, but the pain I was experiencing was making it difficult to get out of bed in the morning. Through a friend’s referral I began seeing a Gonstead Chiropractor 20 minutes from my home in Massachusetts. He was different from all the other doctors I’d seen because it was part of my care to be educated about my nervous system and the vertebral subluxation complex. I began to finally understand how critical spinal health is to my overall health and well-being. I learned that the definition of health is "optimal physical, emotional, and social well being, not merely the absence of disease." That changed my life! I knew I could count on the body’s innate ability to heal itself with the reduction of nerve interference, versus popping some pill to hide the pain. I wanted to get to the bottom of why my body wasn’t functioning properly. I wasn’t satisfied just being a patient; I joined my doctor’s vibrant chiropractic team!

After marrying my husband, John, we moved to Clifton Park and I started working with Dr. Spence. Dr. Spence shared the same ideals about the body that had become my truth and I knew I would feel at home in his practice. I grew in my understanding of Chiropractic care and how to maintain spinal health. When my daughter, Tess, was born, she joined me and my husband in receiving regular spinal adjustments to keep our bodies functioning at their God given potential. We are a proud Chiropractic family!

I also have a great sense of pride in serving others as a Chiropractic assistant. Everyday I celebrate the joy of true wellness with our practice members. If we haven’t already met, I look forward to welcoming your family to Spence Chiropractic someday soon!

Dr. John Asks some important questions of interest to Clifton Park residents - Chiropractor Clifton Park Dr. John Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
What can a chiropractor do for asthma?
Many people think of chiropractic as exclusively dealing with the spine. But I'm interested in the spine because it covers the nervous system. Problems in the spine can produce problems in the organs and tissues controlled by the affected nerves—including those to the lungs and bronchial tubes. Find out how chiropractic care has helped those with asthma.
